William Arthur (Billy) Baker, 89, of Awendaw, South Carolina, husband of the late Ruth Marlowe Baker entered into eternal rest Friday, February 18, 2022. His funeral service will be held Friday, February 25, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc, Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Matthis Ferry Rd. at 11:00 am. Interment immediately following the service in Wilson Cemetery, 675 Wilson Cemetery Rd, Awendaw, SC, 29492 . The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
Billy was born July 26, 1932, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late William Baker and the late Leona Murrell Baker. He was a third-generation boat joiner and was a master craftsman in both the commercial and private marine sectors. He was the owner of North 17 Joiner shop in Mount Pleasant through 2005, and a long-standing member of the Ocean Grove Methodist Church. Billy will be remembered most, for the way he loved his church and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Baker Wood (Steve) of Awendaw; two grandchildren, Ashley L. Wood, and Jonathan L. Wood; three great-grandchildren, Brody, Kaylee, and Cooper; brothers, Robert Baker (Clair) of Awendaw, and Melvin Baker of Mount Pleasant; several nieces, nephews and even great-nieces and nephews. He is also leaving behind his beloved adopted dog, Gunner.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ruth; and two brothers, Bruce, and Kenneth Baker.
The family offers their sincere thanks and gratitude to Tommie Nesbit of Interim Healthcare, and Mary Moree and Nikki Taylor of Crescent Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Charleston Humane Society, 2455 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406 and Ocean Grove Methodist Church, 6517 US-17, Awendaw, SC 29429.
