Reginald Whitaker Alston, Jr., 97, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Constance Joan Heatley Alston entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 24, 2021. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held in Riverview Memorial Park, 3715 Azalea Dr, North Charleston, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Reginald was born February 23, 1924 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, son of the late Reginald Whitaker Alston and Sue Arrington Dunn Alston. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, and worked in the automobile repair business as a body mechanic. Reggie enjoyed woodworking, and made beautiful furniture and handcrafted items for his wife, home and family. He was a long-time member of Midland Park United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Constance Heatley Alston of North Charleston, SC; his daughter, Terry A. Swinnie (Frank) of Andrews, SC; his son, Reginald W Alston, III (Debbie) of La Grange, NC; his brother, Charlie Dunn Alston of LaGrange, NC; his special niece and close buddy, Diane Bean; nine grandchildren, Reginald Alston, IV, Kristy A. Herring, John I. Alston, David J. Alston, A. Caroline Alston, Kate A. King, Robert F. Swinnie, IV, Fran A. Swinnie, and Alston B. Swinnie; and ten great-grandchildren.
